What I do like to do is crafty things that are festive, but not too in your face "holiday." Now, I tend to stick to mostly nature related topics in this blog, but you'll notice if you ever look at my "blogs I follow list", that I like to check out the crafty blogs too. Look at these very cool window stars that I stumbled upon on someone's blog.

The Nature Nut gets crafty
I'm not a big decorator for the holidays. Well, really we don't decorate at all. We have been known to put up a small strand of tasteful white lights on the house, but that's about it.

I immediately googled "window stars" and could find very little info about them. What I did find out is that they seem to be a Waldorf tradition. The stars are constructed of kite paper. Kite paper is not easy to find. I finally ended up finding the paper at my local Waldorf school store. I also picked up a book with more patterns than the two I could find on the web. I found this site with a pattern. (my favorite.) And this one, a bit more simple.

These are really cool! I will have to find out how to do this and I know that Mike will be good at making them....yes, my husband is sometimes handier than I am at things like this and he will enjoy the symmetry and geometry involved :-)
ReplyDeleteThey're absolutely beautiful! A splash of color is always nice especially when it's raining out.:) Nice work!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love these. My daughter would be really into making them. We have lots of Waldorf schools here in Seattle so I'm sure they must have a store as well. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteWow, those are great! I noticed the new colorful header on your blog a few days ago, and now I know what those beautiful decorations are. I don't know if you have any trouble with birds colliding with your windows, but if you did before, you won't any more! Can't wait to see what you're baking up!
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty!! I love the colors, especially now that my yard is lacking in due to dreary old winter. A very nice touch to your decor.
ReplyDeleteThose are really fun - and they make your windows look quite festive (of course, in an extremely tasteful way!) :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a single "crafty" cell in my entire body or I might actually attempt something like this. Beautiful.
Wow! Beautiful! I can imagine several jump-off projects involving kite paper. My daughters love to create things to hang in the house, though their creations often end up worlds away from what I envisioned (in a good way, of course!)!
ReplyDeleteI just love these! Thank you for sharing such a colorful way to cheer our sometimes dismal weather.
